Karnataka govt to complete recruitment process for 17,000 teachers by December: Minister Bangarappa

Bengaluru, The Karnataka government has announced that the recruitment process for 17,000 teacher posts will be completed by December, State Minister for School Education and Literacy Madhu Bangarappa said.

Addressing the media in Bengaluru, the Minister added that the state government had already completed the recruitment of 13,500 teachers, a process that had remained pending under the previous Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, after pursuing the matter in the Supreme Court.

“In addition, the state government has granted approval for the recruitment of 6,000 teachers in aided schools. The recruitment process for these posts is expected to be completed by December or January,” he said.

Bangarappa added that the recruitment drive would help address the shortage of teachers in the state and improve the quality of education by ensuring better learning opportunities for children.

The state government has been taking steps to fill vacant teaching positions and strengthen the education system in Karnataka, he said.

Later, speaking after inaugurating the Children’s Dasara programme at Kalamandira in Mysuru on Wednesday, organised as part of the Nada Habba Mysuru Dasara Mahotsav-2026, Minister Bangarappa added that when it comes to God and children, I will always give priority to children.

“Children should be regarded as being in the place of God. They are the beacon of hope who can lead the country in the future.”

“Around 6,500 children are participating in various cultural programmes as part of the Dasara celebrations. Even before taking the stage, the children enthusiastically participated in rangoli and painting competitions. Through their paintings, they expressed the Nada Habba Dasara from their own unique perspectives. Recognising and honouring children’s talents is the responsibility of all of us,” the Minister said.

“As Education Minister, I have been working sincerely for the welfare of children. Around 1.16 crore children in the state come under the purview of my department. It is my privilege to be involved in shaping the educational future of such a large number of children. Providing quality education to children is one of the key priorities of our (Congress) government,” he added.

Significant changes are being introduced in the state’s education sector through Karnataka Public Schools (KPS). Steps are being taken to establish 1,250 KPS schools in the first phase.

Former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had taken a keen interest in establishing 1,000 KPS schools during his tenure.

The current Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has directed officials to take steps to establish an additional 1,000 KPS schools.

“With these initiatives, around 2,500 KPS schools are expected to come up across the state,” Bangarappa said.

The KPS schools will provide quality education and essential facilities to compete with private schools. Children will have the opportunity to study under one roof, from pre-primary to pre-university (PUC) level.

The state government will also provide free school bus facilities to ensure that education is easily accessible to children, the Minister added.
