Bhopal/Jabalpur: MP high court has directed state govt to decide within 60 days whether school contract teachers appointed before 2001 should be exempted from qualifying the teachers’ eligibility test (TET).

Justice Vivek Singh issued the direction while disposing of a petition filed by Anil Kumar Tomar and others. The court asked govt to consider Supreme Court and other high court orders in similar cases. The petitioners said they were appointed as Grade II and Grade III contract teachers between 1997 and 1999. State govt later made qualifying TET compulsory for promotion.

They cited orders exempting teachers appointed before 2001 elsewhere in the country from passing TET. They approached the high court after the competent authority failed to respond to their representation seeking exemption. tnn
