Srinagar, Mar 03: Education Minister Sakeena Itoo on Tuesday announced that all schools, colleges, and universities across the Kashmir Division will remain closed till March 7 as a precautionary measure amid the prevailing situation.
“We have decided to keep schools, colleges and universities closed till March 7,” she said, adding that the decision was taken to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff.
The University of Kashmir has also suspended all teaching and academic activities across its campuses till March 7. Officials from the School Education Department said further updates on reopening will be communicated through official channels.
The closure follows widespread protests across Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday after the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in US-Israeli strikes.
The shutdown is a further extension of disruption to an academic calendar already affected by a prolonged winter break.
Schools up to Class 8 had been scheduled to reopen on Monday after more than two months of winter vacation. Classes from 9th to 12th standard had resumed on February 23, while colleges in the Valley had reopened on February 16 after 52 days of winter vacation.
Students, parents, and faculty have been advised to follow official channels for updates on reopening.
