Hyderabad: A 27-year-old doctor working at a private hospital in Balapur was found dead in the hospital’s staff rest room on Monday evening. Police found three empty vials of injections along with syringes from the room and suspect that he may have died by suicide.Balapur police station officers identified the deceased as Dr Kaashif Ahmed, a Unani doctor with a bachelor’s degree from Visakhapatnam. “Ahmed had completed his degree about six months ago and had joined Recover Hospital in Balapur as the night duty doctor two months ago,” Balapur sub-inspector K Sudhakar said.On Sunday night, Ahmed was sent to the second-floor surgical intensive care nuit (SICU) duty room. “The next morning between 5:30 am and 7.30 am, Ahmed attended to patients and later went back to the SICU staff room and locked the door from inside,” A Suresh, manager on duty at Recover Hospital, told police officials.Assuming he was sleeping after night duty, other staff members did not disturb Ahmed in the afternoon. At 6 pm, the hospital staff knocked on the door. “There was no response and the staff forcibly opened the locked door. Ahmed was lying unconscious on the bed with empty vials of midazolam, paracetamol and atracurium and used syringes lying next to him,” Suresh stated in his complaint.“Given that the room was locked from the inside, it is suspected that Ahmed injected himself with an anaesthetic, muscle relaxant and analgesic drugs and died by suicide. There was no suicide note and the exact cause ofdeath can be known after the postmortem is done. When Ahmed’s parents arrived at the hospital they too did not raise any queries about his death,” the sub-inspector said.Police officials have booked a case under Section 194 (suspicious death) of the BNSS.
