Bengaluru: An 85-year-old man allegedly killed his visually and hearing-impaired wife before ending his life inside their house at an apartment in Chokkanahalli, north Bengaluru. The two — Sheo Nandan Prasad and Sumitra Devi — were natives of Bihar. The incident came to light in the early hours of Tuesday when the couple’s son, Kiran Kumar Kashyap, 58, a retired airman now employed as a senior security supervisor at a private college in Bengaluru, discovered their bodies.According to the complaint filed by Kashyap, his wife and son had travelled to Bihar to attend a family wedding, while he remained in Bengaluru with his daughter and elderly parents. On the night of June 22, the elderly couple retired to their bedroom as usual after Kashyap served them dinner in their room. The following morning, after preparing breakfast, Kashyap went to his parents’ room around 6am and repeatedly called out to them. When there was no response, he broke open the locked door with a hammer. Inside, he found his parents dead. His daughter immediately alerted police.Kashyap stated that his father had been suffering from heart-related ailments, while his mother was completely blind and deaf. He suspected that his father may have killed his wife by smothering or strangulation, and later died by hanging himself from a window grill using a lungi. An officer said the deaths are believed to have occurred between 10pm Monday and 6am Tuesday. The autopsy report will reveal whether Sumitra was killed by smothering or strangulation. A case of murder has been registered.
