Namakkal: Houses built under the Indira Gandhi Housing Scheme 30 years ago in Vallipuram area are in a dilapidated condition and pose a threat to the lives of residents, who have approached authorities seeking immediate action to prevent any mishap.“There are cracks in ceilings, which have started peeling off,” said K Vijaya, one of the residents. She said the iron rods in the concrete were now visible in many areas of the building. She said all 10 houses built under the Indira Gandhi Housing Scheme in Vallipuram area in 1994-95 were crying for attention. “We are living in fear. The houses need to be repaired at the earliest.” Pointing out that 3,000 families were living at Vallipuram, another resident said they were facing drinking water woes as well in the absence of an overhead water tank with sufficient capacity to meet the requirements of the locality. Congress east district president Dr P V Senthil urged the officials concerned should act promptly to address the issues being faced by the residents of the housing scheme. He also warned of protests if officials failed to find a solution to the woes of the residents.
