Dumka: The deputy mukhiya of Hussainabad panchayat in Devipur block of Deoghar was among 10 arrested for allegedly robbing houses of cyber fraud accused by posing as police personnel, police said.The accused were identified as Farukh Ansari, deputy mukhiya, Mohammad Mubarak Ansari alias Guddu, Altaf Ansari alias Guddu, Izrail Ansari, Tahir Ansari, Shahbaz Ansari, Pandey Yadav, Bablu Ansari, Suleman Sah, and Akram Sah. Farukh is wanted in a kidnapping case. They were sent to judicial custody on Saturday, police added.SDPO Kuldeep Kumar said, “The gang members, in uniforms and claiming to be from the cyber police station, primarily targeted houses of accused in cyber fraud cases.

When the victims opened the door, the gang members held them hostage at gunpoint and looted cash and valuables. Victims often hesitated to report the incidents, fearing legal action.”Officer in-charge of Jasidih police station, Deepak Kumar, said, “The gang members were arrested from an abandoned building at Rahini More under Deoghar police station limits while they were planning criminal activities. A case under robbery, the Arms Act, and other relevant sections of BNS was registered on Saturday.”Preliminary investigation revealed that the gang members were active in Jasidih, Devipur, Margomunda, Sarath, Madhupur, Sonaraytharhi and Pathrol police station areas of Deoghar. Their links to similar offences reported in Dumka and other districts are being probed. Further investigation is under way, police added.A country-made pistol, four live cartridges, a pistol’s magazine, five police T-shirts, five trousers, five caps, four plastic batons, two motorcycles have been seized from the accused, the OC said.
