Dhanbad: A major controversy has erupted in the Dhanbad Cricket Association (DCA) after two executive committee members were removed, triggering a constitutional debate, widening factional rifts and demands for transparency and fresh elections.Former executive committee member Santosh Kumar Singh has strongly objected to his removal, alleging the decision was taken without prior notice, consent or resignation, despite his democratic election for the 2024-2027 term. Addressing supporters on Sunday, Singh termed the action “arbitrary” and “against the association’s constitution”.Rejecting allegations reportedly levelled against him as baseless and misleading, he claimed he was removed because of his close association with Jharia MLA Ragini Singh and Dhanbad Mayor Sanjeev Singh.

He appealed to DCA president Manoj Singh to uphold the association’s constitution and democratic values, stressing that the organisation should remain focused on cricket development rather than political rivalry.The controversy intensified after executive member Diven Tiwari was also removed. Subsequently, Ashni Singh, daughter-in-law of former mayor Indu Singh, was inducted into the Women’s Cricket Committee, while Abhishek Singh, cousin of mayor Sanjeev Singh, was included in the association, fuelling speculation over internal factionalism.Responding to the criticism, DCA president Manoj Singh defended the move, saying the working style of Santosh Kumar Singh and Diven Tiwari suggested they were no longer interested in contributing to the association’s activities. However, he said the matter could be reconsidered if both members submit fresh applications.Dhanbad Mayor Sanjeev Singh urged the Jharkhand Cricket Association to conduct fresh elections to restore confidence among cricket lovers and ensure fair administration of cricket in Dhanbad.
