Hyderabad: With Telangana under the BJP high command’s ‘unity tracker’ and renewed scrutiny over factionalism within the state unit, key leaders are likely to be summoned to Delhi soon as the party moves to enforce discipline and present a united front ahead of the GHMC elections.The move comes weeks after BJP national president Nitin Nabin’s visit to Hyderabad, where he unveiled a “unity tracker” to monitor coordination among state leaders and directed functionaries to strengthen the party from the booth level. Nabin had also stressed leader accountability and warned against internal differences hurting the party’s prospects.Party in-charge Abhay Patil has since begun reaching out to senior leaders, including DK Aruna and other Mahbubnagar leaders, amid simmering differences within the state unit. Sources said the proposed Delhi meeting is aimed at ironing out differences among senior leaders at a time when the BJP is looking to strengthen its organisational base in Telangana.The move comes a day after senior leaders Eatala Rajender and Bandi Sanjay Kumar met at BJP Rajya Sabha MP K Laxman’s residence in Hyderabad. Asked about the meeting, Patil sought to downplay its significance, saying there was nothing unusual about the interaction and adding that similar meetings among party leaders would continue in the days ahead.Patil has already held separate consultations with BJP MP D Arvind as part of the exercise to smoothen relations among senior leaders and strengthen coordination within the state unit. Sources said he is also expected to speak to DK Aruna and other leaders from Mahbubnagar, where differences have come to the fore in recent weeks.Nabin, during his visit, had also asked leaders to remain focused on grassroots expansion, warning that factional politics and leader-centric functioning could undermine the party’s preparations for the GHMC elections and its long-term goal of capturing power in Telangana.Meanwhile, former Goshamahal MLA T Raja Singh questioned whether the meeting between Eatala and Sanjay alone would help the BJP come to power in Telangana. Referring to the upcoming GHMC elections, he said the party should first prove its strength by winning corporator seats instead of aiming to capture mayoral posts.Raja Singh also questioned the party’s strategy of focusing on a single leader and wondered how state BJP president N Ramchander Rao could function effectively if his hands were tied.
