Kanpur: The family of a newly-wed woman Neelam Sahu, 28, who was found dead on Monday evening, have accused her husband of murder on Wednesday, said police. Police took the husband, Vinay Rathore, into custody and interrogated him. The three-day old body was sent for post-mortem.Neighbours reported a foul smell from the house after which the police broke open the door and recovered the body.The woman’s brother Shubham Sahu, a resident of Barra Vishwa Bank H Block, said that his sister Neelam had a love marriage with accountant Vinay Rathore, resident of Varun Vihar, Gujaini police station area in Kanpur on Feb 22, 2025. They both studied together since childhood. However, later he started harassing Neelam. He alleged, “On Friday, after killing his sister, Vinay hung the body from a noose and left, saying he was going to get a house constructed in his ancestral village, Budhauli, in Sikandra, located in Kanpur Dehat.“The family alleged murder amid domestic discord. Meanwhile, Vinay told police that he called his wife several times on Saturday and Sunday, but the phone was not answered. On Monday he sent a neighbour to the house to check on her, he said. The neighbour reported that the door was locked from inside and there was a stench coming from the house.Gujaini police station in-charge Rajan Sharma said, “The husband has been taken into custody and is being interrogated. The woman’s family has accused him of murder. A report will be registered based on the written complaint and action will be taken.”
