Mandya: Deputy commissioner Kumara on Wednesday directed sugar factory owners to immediately disburse the additional payment of Rs 100 per tonne of sugarcane to farmers without citing any excuses. The instruction was issued during a meeting held at the DC’s office to review sugarcane supply and the implementation of additional pricing for the 2025–26 crushing season.Addressing representatives of sugar factories, the DC stated that it was decided to provide farmers with an additional Rs 100 per tonne over the Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) for sugarcane supplied during the 2025–26 season. This additional payment was intended to support sugarcane growers and ensure fair returns for their produce. He explained that under the arrangement, the state govt already released Rs 50 per tonne as financial assistance. The remaining Rs 50 per tonne must be contributed by the respective sugar factories so that a total of Rs 100 per tonne is credited directly to the bank accounts of the farmers.Kumara emphasised that since the govt fulfilled its responsibility by releasing its share of the subsidy, sugar factories must now comply with the order and ensure that the full additional amount reaches farmers without delay. He warned factory managements against providing excuses or postponing the payment.
