Madikeri: A man, under the influence of alcohol, hacked two people to death with a sword in Kanakandi, Kundachery village, under Bhagamandala police station limits.Yashoda, 50, and Kunharam, 55, who lived in Kanakandi Scheduled Caste Colony in Kundachery village, died in the attack late on Wednesday. Chandu, 60, the accused, was arrested by Bhagamandala police.According to police, Yashoda, who was unmarried, lived with her mother, Bellakki. A relative, Kunharam, was a close friend of Yashoda. Chandu, the son of Yashoda’s elder brother, did not like this. There were frequent fights over this. On Wednesday evening, Chandu entered the house with a sword while Yashoda and Kunharam were at rest. He then launched an attack with the sword, killing both on the spot.The neighbours who noticed Chandu leaving the house immediately informed police. Bhagamandala police arrived at the spot and arrested Chandu.Superintendent of police RN Bindumani, who visited the spot and inspected the crime scene, said that the preliminary investigation revealed that the accused said an alleged illicit affair between the victims forced him to commit the crime.DSP Suraj, circle inspector Anoop Madappa, and in-charge station officer Dinesh were also present.
