Patna: A speeding truck hit a motorcycle on NH-27 near Raghopur in Supaul district on Thursday, killing an eight-month pregnant woman and her unborn child, and injuring her sister.According to police, the deceased was identified as Sangeeta Kumari (22), who was due for her first delivery on March 14. Sangeeta was travelling to Raghopur Degree College for her BA examination along with her brother-in-law, Bhuneshwar Prasad Singh, and her sister when the accident occurred.The truck rammed into the motorcycle, causing Sangeeta to fall on the road, where she was crushed under the wheels of another truck following closely behind. Her sister sustained minor injuries.After the incident, local residents gathered at the spot and stopped the truck and informed the police. However, the driver managed to flee. A police team from Raghopur police station reached the spot and launched an investigation.Sangeeta was married on April 23, 2025. Her husband works as a construction labourer in Delhi. She belonged to a farming family, with five members in her in-laws’ household.Raghopur SHO Amit Kumar Rai said, “Both trucks involved in the incident have been seized and brought to the police station. A case has been registered against the drivers of both vehicles, and efforts are on to identify and arrest the absconding drivers.”
