Ahmedabad: Plans to widen a 3km stretch from Shahibaug Dafnala to Airport Circle to 30m and develop it as an Iconic Road have been stalled for almost a year and half due to lack of approvals. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) had cleared the project without securing permission from the Army Cantonment, which owns the land. At present, the stretch has uneven width, varying from about 24m in some sections to 30m or more in others. Since widening is off the table for now, the focus has shifted to redesigning the existing carriageway. Before work on the surface begins, AMC plans to lay a stormwater line first. An AMC official requesting anonymity said, “The existing road from Shahibag Dafnala to Airport Circle is not a TP road. It is owned by the Army Cantonment, which has not granted permission to widen it. The plan now is to develop the existing road as an Iconic Road without widening.” TNN
