Ryan Williams’ goal gave Bengaluru FC a 1-0 win over Jamshedpur FC in their ISL fixture at the JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur on Saturday.
The win pushed BFC (20 points) to fourth place, one point behind leaders Jamshedpur FC, Mohun Bagan and East Bengal.
For Jamshedpur FC, the loss robbed the side of the chance to take the sole lead on the points table.
BFC and Jamshedpur FC have one match remaining, while Mohun Bagan and East Bengal is better placed with three outings in hand. In Margao, Mohun Bagan Super Giant was held to a 1-1 draw by FC Goa.
BFC head coach Pep Munoz was a relieved man, recording his first win in charge.
Williams broke the deadlock in the 38th minute, when he latched on to a cushioned header from teammate Lalremtluanga Fanai at the edge of the box.
Williams took a quick, low strike, which evaded a crowd of defenders and beat Jamshedpur FC goalkeeper Albino Gomes at the near post.
Pratik Chaudhari held firm for Jamshedpur FC in defence, making two vital blocks. Chaudhari managed to slot one in as well, but the goal was disallowed.
The result: Jamshedpur FC 0 lost to BFC 1 (Ryan Williams 38).
