Kanpur: The India Meteorological Department ( IMD) has indicated that mercury levels are likely to rise further in the coming days, making weather conditions hotter and more uncomfortable across the region.Temperatures are increasing rapidly across several North and Central Indian states, including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, resulting in heatwave-like conditions. At the same time, a new Western Disturbance has become active in the hilly regions of North India, increasing the likelihood of strong winds and dust storms across the plains.Meteorologists have also expressed concern over global sea surface temperatures nearing record levels, raising fears about the possible return of a strong El Niño phenomenon and the occurrence of extreme weather events in the coming months.
