Bengaluru: A late-night cylinder blast inside a house left a 28-year-old woman and her nine-year-old daughter injured and destroyed several household items, including cash, a washing machine, a TV, clothes and other belongings.According to a complaint filed by Amitha Pal, a resident of Muneshwara Layout in Begur in east Bengaluru, the family lives on the fourth floor of a residential building. Around 11.40pm on March 11, while the family was asleep, they heard a loud explosion. When they woke up, they noticed that the house had caught fire.Amitha’s husband quickly rushed both of them out of the house. However, Amitha sustained burns, while her daughter suffered injuries near her eye. Neighbours rushed to the spot and helped douse the flames. The injured were later shifted to a nearby private hospital.Amitha told police that the family had purchased a 2023-model gas stove along with an AEGIS Pure Gas regulator and cylinder for Rs 2,500. The cylinder was refilled through a nearby shop, Mahalakshmi Provision Store. After the cylinder ran empty on March 5, her husband reportedly paid Rs 2,200 at the shop for a refill. On the night of March 11, the family was sleeping in the bedroom when the blast occurred, she stated in the complaint with Begur police. A case under Sections 125(a) (act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 287 (negligent conduct with respect to fire or combustible matter) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been registered.
