Prayagraj: A wanted criminal was injured and arrested along with two of his accomplices after an encounter in Fatehpur late Monday night, police said.The police recovered two countrymade pistols of .315 bore, three unused cartridges, two used cartridge, Rs 12,500 cash, an iron rod, and a SUV from the criminal identified as Rafeeq (45).He was admitted to the hospital in Fatehpur for treatment. The gang was involved in stealing goats and other cattle.Police said a joint team of Bakewar and SOG police were conducting routine checks near Devmai canal bridge road when they noticed three suspicious men in a SUV. The cops signalled them to stop, but they made a futile attempt to escape. However, when the police team surrounded them, one of them opened fire.The cops retaliated, resulting in an injury to Rafeeq’s left leg.Police said Rafeeq, a resident of Jahanabad village in Fatehpur, has 15 criminal cases pending against him in Fatehpur. Two of his accomplcies identified as Javed and Naseem , both residents of Jahanabad were also arrested after a brief chase.
