Kanpur: A cow slaughter accused was arrested after being shot in the leg during an encounter with police near the Pratappur underpass in the Ajitmal Kotwali police station area of Auraiya district late on Friday, while his accomplice managed to escape.According to police, the accused, identified as Manoj of Ratnipur village, was allegedly involved in a cow slaughter incident on July 30.Police said the two suspects were intercepted during a vehicle-checking drive near the Pratappur underpass.“When they found themselves surrounded by police, the suspects allegedly opened fire on the police team. In retaliatory firing, one accused sustained a bullet injury to his leg, while his accomplice managed to flee,” police added.Police recovered a country-made pistol, cartridges and a motorcycle without a registration number from the injured accused’s possession.Officials said raids were being conducted to trace the absconding accused, and efforts were underway to arrest him.
