T’puram: Nedumangad Police on Saturday arrested two men for allegedly waylaying and assaulting a couple travelling in a car at night and later attacking two bike-borne men who questioned the incident.The arrested were S Shameer, 37, and R Shamnath, 38. They were arrested by a team led by Nedumangad inspector Prasad and SI Ambareesh.The incident occurred at Moozhi on the Panavoor-Puthenpalam road on Wednesday night. According to the police, the accused allegedly stopped Panavoor native Shajahan‘s car and subjected him and his wife Sabina to verbal abuse and assault.Muhammad Nishad and his friend Shabin, who were travelling on a motorcycle noticed the couple being harassed. They intervened and questioned the accused.The police said the accused then allegedly attacked Nishad and Shabin with stones. Nishad suffered a deep injury to his forehead, while Shabin sustained an injury to the back of his head.The police registered a case based on the couple’s complaint for allegedly outraging the woman’s modesty and other offences. A separate case under attempt to murder charges was registered on the complaint of Nishad and Shabin, police said.The accused were produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody.
