COIMBATORE: The Kuniyamuthur police in the city on Sunday arrested a couple on charges peddling ganja and painkiller tablets. The arrested have been identified as S Fathima Sahana, 20 and her husband S Salman Khan, 26, of Kuniyamuthur.According to a police officer, a special police team tailed the two suspects named Manikandan and Sakthivel who arrived here from Bengaluru on Friday morning and caught them red-handed. Upon searching them, officers recovered 2,100 intoxicating tablets valued at approximately Rs 6 lakh, along with a small quantity of ganja.Police found that they had purchased the pills from Bengaluru and more individuals were involved in this. Further, a police team began an investigation and found that Fathima and Salman were peddling ganja and drug pills from Bengaluru and selling them in the city.According to police sources, Salman has nine pending cases related to narcotic drugs and theft, while Fathima has three cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Since Salman was under police radar, he was using his wife to procure contraband from Bengaluru. She used to hide the substances inside clothes while travelling. Fathima is addicted to drug pills and has been taking them daily.The Kuniyamuthur police registered a case. Both were remanded in judicial custody.
