Rajkot: A 54-year-old govt contractor has filed a complaint at Malaviya Nagar police station, accusing a moneylender of extortion and issuing threats.According to the complaint, Mohan Patel initially borrowed Rs 1 lakh from his acquaintance, Pratipalsinh Gohil, in April 2023 to pay workers’ salaries and repaid it within a month. He later borrowed Rs 2.80 lakh in instalments from Gohil at an agreed monthly interest rate of 3%.Patel said he paid Rs 8,400 as monthly interest for two months. However, he alleged that Gohil later changed the terms, demanding Rs 3,000 per day as interest—amounting to Rs 2.40 lakh per month.Despite the principal being Rs 2.80 lakh, Patel claimed he has paid a total of Rs 18.50 lakh, including interest. He further alleged that Gohil forcibly seized his tractor and continued to demand more money.Patel also alleged that when he sought the return of his tractor, Gohil threatened to kill him and his family over phone calls.Police have registered a case under BNS Sections 308(5), 352, 351(3) and 115(2), along with relevant provisions of the Gujarat Money Lenders Act.
