Kalaburagi: Visuals, purportedly showing Mateen Patel, a Congress functionary and a close associate of Afzalpur Congress MLA MY Patil, dancing with a firearm at a wedding in Kalaburagi district went viral on social media, triggering widespread outrage and criticism.According to the video clips circulating online, Patel is seen arriving at the wedding venue in a filmy way — stepping out of his car and making his way to the stage amid loud music. He is then seen dancing to the song from ‘Dhurandhar’ movie while holding a pistol on one hand. One of his followers is also seen holding what appears to be a modern automatic rifle.
The visuals show the wedding invitees recording the act on their cellphones. The incident drew sharp criticism from the public, with many questioning the conduct of a person associated with public life. Netizens expressed anger and dissatisfaction, terming the act irresponsible and dangerous.Responding to alleged incident, city police commissioner Sharanappa SD said they have taken note of the visuals. “An investigation is under way to ascertain where the incident has indeed taken place. Displaying weapons in public is a criminal offence. After conducting a detailed inquiry, a suo motu case will be registered,” the top cop said.
