Dharwad: Savita Nagabhushana (Shivamogga), Renuka Kodagunti (Bengaluru), Geetha Sitarama (Mysuru), and KS Pavitra (Shivamogga) have been selected for the Mathoshri Ratnamma Heggade Women’s Literary Award–2024 instituted at Karnatak Vidyavardhaka Sangha, Dharwad.The awardees were chosen from 121 literary works submitted across genres. A panel of judges evaluated entries in four categories — short stories/novels, poetry collections, essays, and other literary forms — and shortlisted the best works. Each award carries Rs 15,000, a citation, and a memento.
The award-winning works are: Dhinada Prarthane (poetry collection) by Savita Nagabhushana and Tamburi (poetry collection) by Katyayani Kunjabettu (Udupi) in the poetry category; Chigurodeda Beru (short story collection) by Renuka Kodagunti; Malava Samrajyada Rajayogini Ahalyabai Holkar (novel) by Geetha Sitarama; and Dhee Thanana! (art–literature–thoughts) by KS Pavitra in the ‘Other literary works’ category.Instituted in 1977, the Mathoshri Ratnamma Heggade Women’s Literary Award has been conferred for nearly five decades by the Karnataka Vidyavardhaka Sangha to encourage and recognise women’s writing in Kannada.According to a release issued by the organisers, the awards will be presented at a special ceremony at the Sangha in the first week of March.
