Patna: The two-day mid-term IASGCON-2026 conference organised by the department of surgical gastroenterology and liver transplant at Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) commenced on Saturday. Medical superintendent Dr Manish Mandal said the event features 21 scientific sessions focusing on research and treatment in surgical gastroenterology.The conference was inaugurated by Dr Thebum Thambi Pillai, a robotic surgeon from the United States. Speakers discussed the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in cancer diagnosis and surgical procedures. IASG secretary Dr Sujoy Pal said the integration of AI is aimed at improving the precision and speed of medical interventions.IASG president Dr T D Yadav noted a rise in cases of pancreatic diseases in Bihar and said the shift from laparoscopic to robotic surgery enables faster patient recovery and quicker return to work.Lectures are being delivered by specialists from AIIMS Delhi, Tata Memorial Hospital Mumbai, Apollo Delhi and other leading medical institutions across the country. The conference will conclude on Sunday.
