Vadodara: A 17-year-old boy has been detained for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl, sparking tension and a late-night crowd swell outside the Manjalpur police station on Friday.According to the police, both the accused and the victim live in the same locality in Manjalpur. The incident reportedly occurred on March 22, when the girl visited a grocery store that was being managed by the accused. The boy allegedly took her to a room above the shop and sexually assaulted her.LD Gamara, police inspector, Manjalpur, said the accused later narrated the incident to some of his friends. As the friends knew the girl’s brother, they informed him. He spoke to his sister, who confirmed the assault, and they approached the police station late at night.Following the registration of the case, a crowd gathered outside the police station late on Friday night as the boy and the girl belong to different communities. Some local political leaders also reached the police station, demanding strict action.Meanwhile, the complainant and his friend alleged that the accused had recorded a video of the act and shown it to some friends. However, Gamara said the police are currently verifying the claim.“So far, no such video has been found on the accused’s mobile phone. The allegation is being investigated,” he said.The accused boy was booked for rape of a minor under the BNS and relevant provisions of Pocso Act.
