Patna: Theatre lovers in Patna were treated to a gripping performance of the acclaimed play ‘Court Martial’ at Arthshila on Saturday. Written by Swadesh Deepak and staged in collaboration with IPTA Bihar under the Manch Bihar initiative, the play revolves around a young soldier who faces a court martial for killing a senior officer and injuring another.The production was conceptualised and directed by theatre veteran Tanwir Akhtar. Explaining the play’s relevance, Akhtar said it highlights the enduring realities of caste-based discrimination, social humiliation and institutional injustice. “While the system may appear democratic and progressive, discrimination and corruption continue to persist in society,” he said.The one-hour-and-40-minute production featured performances by Srikant Kishore, Sameer Kishore, Piyush Singh, Vishal Tiwari and other artistes.

First published in 1991, Court Martial has been staged nearly 4,000 times across the country. Despite multiple performances in Patna over the years, the play continues to draw audiences and remains a favourite among theatre enthusiasts.
