Patna: Three people, including an auto-rickshaw driver, were killed and two others sustained serious injuries after an auto-rickshaw overturned into a water-filled roadside ditch carrying low-lying live electric wire under Maner police station area on Saturday afternoon.The accident took place near the Byapur Panchayat govt building. According to police, the auto-rickshaw, carrying four passengers, first brushed against another vehicle, following which the driver lost control and the vehicle overturned into the ditch.Local residents said the auto came in contact with a low-tension (LT) power line as it overturned. Since the ditch was filled with water, electric current spread through it, causing severe electric shocks to the occupants.

Three people died on the spot, while two others sustained serious injuries.The incident triggered panic in the area, with a large number of villagers rushing to the spot. Police reached the spot and, with the help of local residents, got the power supply disconnected before rescuing the victims. The bodies were later pulled out of the submerged auto-rickshaw.The deceased were identified as Pramod Rai of Tata Colony, Tuntun Kumar of Byapur and Panna Sav of Dharmeshpur. The injured were admitted to the PHC in Maner for treatment.Maner SHO Rajneesh Kumar confirmed the deaths and said an investigation is underway. “Preliminary findings suggest the auto came in contact with a live wire after falling into the ditch. Three people died due to electrocution. The vehicle was travelling from Bankh village to Byapur when it overturned around 1 pm,” he said.
