Nagpur: Environmentalist Dilip Chinchmalatpure has donated 50,000 saplings to the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). The donation comes days after Union minister Nitin Gadkari appealed to citizens, institutions and organisations to join the plantation campaign being undertaken by the NMC and plant 10 lakh trees across Nagpur.Gadkari felicitated Chinchmalatpure on Friday for supporting the plantation drive. “Protecting and expanding green cover is a collective responsibility. This is my small contribution towards Nagpur’s future,” Chinchmalatpure told TOI.Chinchmalatpure has helped design and develop several green landscapes across the city. He has also been appointed as an expert by the High Court in several environment-related cases, including the landmark matter involving the transplantation of a 188-year-old heritage tree.The month-long drive aims to plant 10 lakh trees across urban and rural areas of Nagpur through public participation, with the civic body expecting support from environmental groups, NGOs, educational institutions and residents.
