Nagpur: Four days after a 31-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide at her in-laws’ residence in Pardi, police arrested her husband and named his parents in the FIR amid allegations that prolonged harassment drove her to take the extreme step.The woman, Pinki Jha, was found unconscious at the house on July 14 around 10.30am after allegedly consuming insecticide tablets. She was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead.Pardi police initially registered an accidental death case. However, after recording statements and examining allegations made by Pinki’s relatives, they converted it into an FIR against her husband, Ashish Jha (31), and his parents, Gayanath and Indrayasen Jha.Ashish, a medical representative, was arrested on Friday night and produced before a local court on Saturday, which remanded him to two days’ police custody.According to the complaint, Pinki had been married to Ashish for 11 years and had two sons, aged 10 and seven. Her family alleged that she was subjected to physical and mental harassment by her husband and in-laws.Police sources said frequent disputes arose over Ashish’s alleged extramarital relationship and his suspicion of his wife’s character.Investigators believe the prolonged domestic discord may have contributed to her death. No suicide note was recovered from the house.Senior Inspector Nanda Manghate of Pardi police station said investigators are examining mobile phones, messages and other digital evidence to reconstruct the events leading to Pinki’s death. Police are also recording statements of relatives, neighbours and other witnesses.The investigation is focused on verifying allegations of domestic cruelty and establishing the role of each accused. Police said Ashish’s custodial interrogation is expected to help corroborate the allegations and gather further evidence.
