Chitradurga: Chitradurga district reported lower crime rates in 2025 compared with the previous three years, police sources said, attributing the decline to strict enforcement and precautionary measures. The district police also implemented several steps to curb drug use and drug dealers, including developing a ‘Drug Free’ application. Under the ‘Drug-Free Chitradurga – Strong Chitradurga’ campaign last year, police organised a marathon and other fitness-related activities.SP Ranjit Kumar Bandaru said 24/7 check posts on major roads, vehicle inspections, daily lock-up house lists at police stations, night patrol checks, fingerprint verification through MCCITNS, and monitoring of previously involved criminals helped reduce property theft cases. “Appropriate legal action was taken,” he said. The SP added that police cracked down on many illegal activities last year, registered cases, and took action against the culprits. “In the coming days, more cases will be registered regarding illegal activities in the district,” he assured.GFXKey Crime TrendsMurder cases: 22 (2025) ↓ from 30 (2024) & 27 (2023) Robbery cases: 6 (2025) ↓ from 7 (2024) & 14 (2023) Chain-snatching: 13 (2025) ↓ from 18 (2024) & 17 (2023) Burglary: 98 (2025) ↓ from 118 (2024) & 145 (2023) General theft: 325 (2025) ↓ from 400 (2024) & 403 (2023) Road Accidents * Fatal accidents: 447 (2023) → 419 (2024) → 384 (2025)* Non-fatal accidents: 1,304 (2023) → 1,278 (2024) → 1,166 (2025)* Deaths: 479 (2023) → 471 (2024) → 425 (2025)* Injuries: 2,690 (2023) → 2,502 (2024) → 2,315 (2025)
