Hazaribag: At least a dozen people were injured in a chain collision involving around six vehicles at the accident-prone Danua Valley under Chauparan police station area late on Sunday. The accident occurred on NH-2 around 9.45 pm when the vehicles were travelling from Jharkhand to Bihar. Police said one of the vehicles overturned on the roadside, while several others were badly damaged in the collision, triggering massive jam on the highway.Locals and police rushed to the spot immediately after hearing a loud crash. Chauparan police station in-charge Pankaj Kumar and Chordaha checkpost in-charge Nitin Kumar Yadav led the rescue operation with the support of local residents.Passengers trapped inside the damaged vehicles were rescued and taken to the community health centre at Chauparan for treatment. Police said some of the injured were later referred to Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital, Hazaribag, after their condition was found to be serious.Preliminary investigation points to over-speeding and heavy vehicular pressure in the narrow valley stretch as possible causes of the accident. The Danua Valley segment of the GT Road has long been notorious for frequent mishaps and is locally known as a “death valley”.“No fatality has been reported so far, but several persons sustained injuries,” Chouparan station in-charge Pankaj Kumar said.
