Bhilwara: The ceiling slabs of the principal’s room at Mahatma Gandhi Govt School, located at the Hurda Panchayat Samiti headquarters in Bhilwara district, collapsed late Friday night. No casualties were reported as the room was unoccupied at the time.The collapse damaged furniture and other items inside the principal’s chamber. After the school opened on Saturday and staff noticed the damage, administrative officials and Education Department personnel reached the spot and began an investigation into the incident.Local BJP MLA Jabbar Singh Sankhala, along with the SDM, tehsildar and Education Department officials, directed that a proposal be immediately sent for construction of a new school building.

Gulabpura SDM Divyaraj Singh Chundawat said officials took information from the Education Department and found the school building was already in a dilapidated condition. He said, “The slabs of the principal’s chamber in the school building of Mahatma Gandhi Govt School in Hurda town broke.”Sankhala also said that the building was 60 years old and the portion where the slab broke was declared unfit.He said seven new rooms were constructed from the DMFT fund and students studied in those rooms. He added the building was declared unfit last year, a poster was put up outside the room, and demolition work was being carried out. He said the incident was being investigated.
