Patna: The Bihar Cybercrime and Security Unit (CCSU) has facilitated the restoration of more than Rs 1 crore to victims of cyber financial fraud in the past two months, as part of efforts to trace and return money held in suspicious bank accounts.Unit officials said they had intensified coordination with banks and district cyber police stations to identify funds that could be restored to victims. The unit has been using the Money Restoration Module (MRM) and Grievance Redressal Module (GRM), available through the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP), to process such complaints.According to the CCSU, banks have provided details that helped identify Rs 19 crore as a “restorable amount” in Bihar. The amount has been updated on the MRM portal, paving the way for refunds to victims’ accounts after due process.In another step, district cyber police stations issued necessary law-enforcement agency (LEA) orders to banks for the restoration of Rs 4.50 crore during the last two months. Following these orders, Rs 1.72 crore was returned to victims’ accounts, the unit said.Officials said the GRM was also being used to address complaints related to bank accounts that had been frozen or placed on hold following cyber fraud cases. Complaints received through the module are reviewed in coordination with the concerned banks and district cyber police stations, with priority given to cases where funds can be released to genuine victims.
