Silchar: The Dimasa Youth Association has sought urgent conservation of two heritage structures at Khaspur Rajbari in Cachar.A delegation of the association’s central committee met Cachar district commissioner Rahul Kumar Gupta and submitted a memorandum addressed to the director of archaeology, Assam.It sought a scientific structural assessment, stabilisation, conservation and restoration of the Baroduwar, or Royal Court Premises, and the Snan Mandir, or Royal Bath House.The association warned that both monuments developed a dangerous lean, raising concerns about their structural stability. Any delay in scientific intervention could cause irreversible damage, it said.Located around 20 km from Silchar, Khaspur Rajbari was the last capital of the Dimasa kingdom in the plains after the royal seat shifted from Maibang in the 18th century. The complex comprises palace ruins, gateways, temples and fortifications.The association said the Baroduwar served as the royal court, where Dimasa kings held durbars and conducted administrative and judicial affairs. The Snan Mandir was an integral part of the royal complex.The appeal comes amid the state govt’s proposed Rs 100 crore preservation and redevelopment project for the nearly 100-bigha heritage complex. It includes conserving the Singh Darwaza, Snan Mandir, Ranachandi Temple and old fortifications, besides improving approach roads, visitor amenities and tourism infrastructure.The association said the Baroduwar and Snan Mandir required immediate scientific assessment and specialised restoration because signs of deterioration became more pronounced. It urged the Directorate of Archaeology to initiate conservation measures to preserve the monuments.
