Guwahati: Assam has received Rs 3,552 crore as an additional instalment of tax devolution from the Centre for August, with CM Himanta Biswa Sarma saying the funds will help in accelerating infrastructure development and strengthen the state’s resilience.“Gratitude to the Union Government led by Adarniya Narendra Modi ji for releasing the additional instalment of tax devolution of Rs 3,552 crore to Assam. This will help us in investing more in creating infrastructure which will shape up a more resilient Assam,” Sarma posted on X on Saturday.He also thanked Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman “for her support in taking forward Assam’s growth journey.”Assam received the highest allocation among the northeastern states, followed by Arunachal Pradesh (Rs 1,476 crore), Tripura (Rs 699 crore), Meghalaya (Rs 688 crore), Manipur (Rs 682 crore), Mizoram (Rs 615 crore), Nagaland (Rs 524 crore) and Sikkim (Rs 365 crore).Nationally, Uttar Pradesh received the highest allocation at Rs 19,208 crore, followed by Bihar (Rs 10,845 crore), Madhya Pradesh (Rs 8,010 crore) and West Bengal (Rs 7,866 crore).Tax devolution refers to the Centre’s transfer of a share of its divisible tax pool to states based on finance commission recommendations. The untied funds can be used for infrastructure, welfare, health, education and other developmental priorities.
