Noida: Continuous rainfall triggered widespread power disruptions in Noida and Ghaziabad on Thursday, with residents’ outages lasting several hours as rainwater seepage into underground cable joints led to a surge in technical faults. Power outages were also reported on Tuesday and Wednesday.Transformers and power cables submerged in water at several locations have further complicated restoration work. In Noida, outages were reported from sectors 100, 45, 12, 44 and 30, among others.Rajesh Sharma, a resident of Sector 100, said prolonged outages have disrupted work from home, while Anil Kumar from Sector 45 urged authorities to announce a fixed schedule for repair-related power cuts.Superintending Engineer Vivek Kumar Patel of PVVNL’s Noida circle said rain-induced technical faults have disrupted supply, adding that teams are working on the ground to restore electricity at the earliest.In the Trans-Hindon area, localities like Abhay Khand, Gyan Khand 1, Nyay Khand in Indirapuram and parts of Vasundhara, Vaishali and Kaushambi faced these outages.Residents Rati Singh and Vikash Kumar from Abhay Khand called for urgent improvements in the power supply, particularly as online classes are being disrupted by the ongoing power cuts.The situation worsened following a fault in the 33 kV power line earlier this week, resulting in residents facing discomfort as sudden power outages during the night left them enduring heat and humidity.Despite the electricity department replacing old wires, outages continue even during light rain. Indirapuram resident Vijay Kumar said power went out as soon as the rain began and frequent disruptions persisted, causing daily inconvenience.Rakesh Singh from Defence Colony said the area remained without power through the night. Residents reported cumulative outages of six to seven hours during and after the rain, expressing growing frustration over the repeated disruptions.Power department officials said faults in power lines during rainfall are common but added that field teams are deployed to restore supply as quickly as possible.
