Rajkot: A casual game of cricket turned fatal for a 19-year-old who slipped into an unused swimming pool while trying to fetch a ball and drowned on Wednesday. Dharmin Moridhara, a second-year BTech student at VVP Engineering College, had appeared for exams earlier in the day and joined his friends for a game of cricket near a locked bungalow in the city’s Avadh area. Police said the ball landed in the bungalow’s pool. Moridhara climbed in to retrieve it, but slipped on accumulated algae, fell in and drowned. Friends and people living nearby pulled him out and tried to administer CPR before rushing him to Civil Hospital in a 108 ambulance. He was declared dead on arrival. Metoda GIDC police registered an unnatural death under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The tragedy cuts even deeper as Moridhara was the only child of his parents. His father, Hitesh Moridhara, is a mason, and the family lives in Jalaram Society near Om Nagar in the Mavdi area.
