Ahmedabad: Evening showers in the city on Friday capped a not-so-hot day. While most areas recorded moderate rainfall, some eastern pockets experienced strong winds accompanied by hail. Hatkeshwar resident and social worker Harshad Patel said Bakrol, Kathwada, Singarva and some parts of Ramol saw rain with strong winds and hail. “It was a day of low temperature and high humidity, but by 6pm, the weather changed suddenly. Fortunately, no major damage was reported due to the hailstorm,” he said. By night, clouds had dispersed and temperatures had stabilized. The rain was the result of Western Disturbance, which also brought showers to several regions of the state. Till 6pm, Kalyanpur in Devbhumi Dwarka had recorded 26mm of rainfall; Patan-Veraval in Gir Somnath district recorded 25mm while Bhavnagar received 17mm.Maximum temperature across cities dropped, with Ahmedabad recording 34.2 degrees celsius, which was 4.2 degrees below normal. At 24.1 degrees, the city’s minimum temperature was 1.6 degrees above normal. Minimum temperatures across the state largely remained between 30 and 35 degrees celsius. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that temperatures in Ahmedabad could remain in the same range on Saturday with partly cloudy skies. On Friday, an upper air cyclonic circulation persisted over Gujarat, IMD said. The impact of Western Disturbance is likely to reduce from Saturday with slim chances of significant rainfall. However, a fresh round of Western Disturbance is likely from April 7.
