Ara: BJP Shahpur MLA Rakesh Ranjan has lodged an FIR alleging that he received an anonymous letter that threatened to kill him. The FIR was registered at Karnamepur police station in Bhojpur district on Aug 3, though the matter came to light late on Friday night.According to the FIR, a letter addressed to Ranjan was delivered by post at his residence in Ojhwaliya village on July 8. The letter, written in the name of one Vikash Kumar, allegedly warned the MLA of a plot to kill him that was being hatched inside Bhagalpur central jail.In the FIR, a copy of which has been seen by TOI, Ranjan alleged that convicted criminals Haresh Mishra and Kuber Mishra had planned to kill him and had arranged a shooter allegedly linked to criminal Lambu Sharma. The letter also claimed that a hand grenade or time bomb could be used in the alleged attack.The MLA further alleged in the FIR that the Bhagalpur jail superintendent was also involved in the alleged conspiracy. The FIR names four persons in connection with the allegations, including three convicted criminals and the jail superintendent.The allegations could not be independently verified. Bhojpur police said the matter was under investigation.The case has significance for the Ranjan family. Rakesh Ranjan’s father, Visheshwar Ojha, who was then a BJP state vice-president, was shot dead by armed assailants at Sonebarsha village in Bhojpur district on Feb 12, 2016. Haresh Mishra was subsequently convicted in the case and sentenced to life imprisonment. He has been lodged in Bhagalpur central jail.Ranjan has alleged in his FIR that Mishra was involved in a plot to kill him in collusion with others. Police said further action would be taken on the basis of the investigation.Superintendent of police Raj said FIR has been lodged and investigation is underway.
