Guwahati: Former Tripura CM and West Tripura MP Biplab Kumar Deb was on Monday elevated to the post of BJP’s national general secretary in the new organisational team announced by party president Nitin Nabin on Monday.Deb is among eight national general secretaries named by BJP. His elevation comes after he served as Tripura CM from 2018 to 2022 and was elected to the Lok Sabha from West Tripura in 2024.Assam and Nagaland have also secured representation in the national team. Assam BJP youth leader Mriganka Deo Barman has been appointed national secretary, while Nagaland Rajya Sabha MP S Phangnon Konyak has also been given the same post.The new team also retains BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra as the party’s northeast coordinator. Patra will continue to oversee BJP’s organisational affairs in the region, with Rajeev Babbar appointed as his deputy.The appointments are part of a major reshuffle of BJP’s national organisational structure under Nabin. The new team includes 13 national vice-presidents, eight general secretaries and 16 national secretaries, besides other organisational posts.Patra has been closely involved in BJP’s northeast affairs and has handled organisational responsibilities in the region, including during the political developments in Manipur.
