Tirupur: A 24-year-old native of Bihar was arrested at Palladam here on Sunday for illegal possession of heroin.The Palladam police said they nabbed Bhushankumar based on a specific intelligence about drug trafficking in their jurisdiction. Police have seized 11 grams of heroin from him. According to an investigation officer, Bhushankumar brought heroin from Bihar and was selling it to people in Tirupur. Preliminary inquiry revealed that he arrived in Tirupur only a few days ago after procuring the drug from his native. “We have registered a case against him under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. He was later produced before court, which remanded him in judicial custody,” the officer said. He said the arrest was made as part of continued efforts to curb the sale and distribution of narcotic substances in Tirupur district. “Further investigation is under way to determine whether the accused had any local contacts or was part of a wider drug supply network operating in the region.”
