Jan Suraaj candidate Prashant Kishor campaigns for the Bankipur bypoll, in Patna on Sunday

Patna: Jan Suraaj candidate for the Bankipur byelection, Prashant Kishor, on Sunday stepped up his campaign, describing the contest as an opportunity for people to defeat the BJP.Claiming that public sentiment was turning against the saffron party, Prashant alleged that the BJP had mobilised functionaries from across the country, including Bihar, and asked them to visit every household in the constituency. “The party has brought in 6,000 workers from across the state to focus on Bankipur,” he said.Asked about allegations that the state treasury was under strain, he said, “This is the effect of seeking votes by giving Rs 10,000 to women voters. If people awaken, the BJP will definitely lose the election.”Prashant also criticised Bihar’s political landscape, saying it had long revolved around “Lalu ke dar se BJP, aur BJP ke dar se Lalu”.Responding to the BJP’s use of the term ‘bahurupiya’ (dissembler) for him, he said there was no restriction on anyone making such remarks. “The BJP knows it is heading for defeat, which is why it has deployed so many leaders and workers in the constituency,” he added.
