Kanpur: Banda was the hottest city in Uttar Pradesh for the second day on Saturday, with the mercury touching 38.4 degrees Celsius. Orai was the second hottest at 36.8 degrees C, while Varanasi was close behind at 36.4 degrees C.Banda sizzled at 40.2 degrees on Friday, becoming the hottest district in the state. Though the mercury dipped by two degrees on Saturday, the district retained the top spot.Kanpur Nagar hit 35.1 degrees C, 6.5 notches above normal. The minimum stood at 17.8 degrees C, 3.1 degrees above normal. The maximum relative humidity was 77%.According to S Sunil Pandey, a weather expert at Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, the Kanpur Division will see mild sunshine on Sunday, with possible cloud movement in some areas. “There is only a possibility of cloud movement and drizzle in parts of the Kanpur Division,” he added.He said increased moisture flow may raise humidity levels, and the heat index is expected to remain above normal. Day and night temperatures are also likely to stay above normal, though daytime temperatures may remain stable or slightly lower due to strong winds. Pandey further stated that north-westerly wind speeds may increase to 1–16 km per hour during the afternoon. With clear skies, there is a strong possibility of increasing heat levels in the coming days.Weather experts said temperatures across UP are expected to rise further by the end of March as the state gradually transitions into the summer season.
