Prayagraj: The Allahabad University (AU) administration has suspended 12 hostel inmates and lodged an FIR against 14 students, including one minor, in connection with repeated incidents of bomb hurling, stone pelting and clashes inside PCB and Sir Sunder Lal (SSL) hostels. The action was taken after a complaint was filed by chief proctor Atul Narayan Singh at Colonelganj police station. Police registered a case under serious sections following allegations that some students and outsiders were repeatedly disturbing the atmosphere of the hostels and forcing junior students to participate in violent activities.“Six inmates each of PCB and SSL have been issued notices and will be asked to vacate the hostel depending on the final probe. They have been suspended from AU till the investigation is on and have been asked to report to AU along with their parents”, said the AU proctor.According to the complaint, incidents of late-night bomb-hurling, stone-pelting, abuse and assault were occurring for several days around PCB and SSL hostels. University officials said the accused students were identified through CCTV footage, security recordings and videos collected during the inquiry. Most of the students named in the FIR are enrolled in BA, BSc and BCom courses and reside in university hostels. The complaint further alleged that a student earlier expelled from SSL hostel was illegally staying in room 88 and was leading several violent incidents. The room was officially allotted to two other students, who allegedly provided shelter to the outsider. Another youth was reportedly staying illegally in PCB hostel. Based on these findings, both allottee students were also named in the FIR.University authorities said CCTV cameras installed in the hostels were deliberately turned away during the clashes, while one camera installed near the badminton court in SSL hostel was stolen. Officials alleged that hostel residents covered their faces before carrying out stone-pelting and bomb-hurling outside rival hostel gates.Sources said the clashes were linked to rivalry between a few key students from both hostels, who allegedly dragged other residents into the conflict. During the investigation, university officials obtained several videos that helped identify the accused before filing the FIR.The administration also claimed that one outsider involved in the incidents was earlier expelled in a ragging case, while another was previously accused of attacking a police officer.
