For the last few years, it’s felt like fast-fashion retailers have been in image-repair mode. Zara, H&M, Shein and the like have noticeably been rolling out designer collections, elevated visuals, sustainability initiatives and strategic price increases that read more aspirational than economical. Another strategy these retailers are using in pursuit of more discerning customers? Promoting emerging talent.

In 2024, Shein tasked six young designers to create repurposed garments as part of its Shein x Rescued program. This year, Uniqlo challenged Central Saint Martins graduates to create a scalable, upcycled collection and H&M relaunched its Design Award, a global competition for design students.

British retailer Asos is the latest to bet on young talent with the recent launch of Arrange Bespoke. The program invites designers to create exclusive, handcrafted, one-off pieces for Arrange, Asos’ elevated occasionwear line. The goal is to champion creativity and craftsmanship beyond seasonal collections, while simultaneously introducing new talent to a global audience, Vanessa Spence, executive vice president of Brand & Creative at Asos, tells Fashionista via email.

“Championing emerging talent has always been an important part of how Asos supports the fashion industry,” she says. “Through Arrange Bespoke, we’re giving the next generation of designers a platform to reach a wider audience while bringing fresh ideas, creativity and innovation to our customers.”

Its first collaborator is Johannes Warnke, a Central Saint Martins graduate known for his unique draping. He unveiled his design, a silk-and-sequin maxi dress made entirely from surplus materials, during Paris Haute Couture Week Fall 2026.

Warnke had caught Asos’ attention with his graduate collection, which explored reflection through sculptural draping, movement and layered reflective materials. “Because reflective embellishment and sequins are a recognizable part of Arrange’s design codes, there was an immediate creative connection,” Spence says. “Johannes brought a fresh, artistic perspective to elements that already exist within the brand’s DNA, making the collaboration feel both authentic and unexpected.”

Throughout the design process, Warnke was given considerable creative freedom to realize his vision and had several weeks to finish the piece, Spence shares. “We wanted the collaboration to feel like a genuine meeting of creative minds rather than a commissioned brief. Our role was to support and collaborate throughout the process while ensuring the final piece remained authentic to both Johannes’ vision and the Arrange identity.”

Currently, Warnke’s design is a one-off piece that will not be reproduced. The fact that it’s not being sold does raise the question: How will Arrange Bespoke measure its success if it’s not looking at sales data? “Success goes beyond traditional commercial metrics,” Spence emphasizes. “We’ll look at the quality of the creative outcome, the conversations it generates within the fashion community, engagement from our customers and how effectively it helps shine a light on emerging creative talent.”

That said, Arrange Bespoke is open to changing its production model in the future. “We’re intentionally keeping the format flexible as the initiative evolves,” Spence says. “Our focus is on creating meaningful creative opportunities, and future collaborations may take different forms depending on the designer and the concept.”

The company is already looking for new talent to bring on for future partnerships. It’s searching for designers who bring fresh perspectives, challenge expectations and have a unique creative voice, Spence shares.

“We see strong potential for Arrange Bespoke to become a recurring initiative that introduces customers to exciting new designers,” she says. “This first collaboration is just the beginning. Arrange Bespoke will continue to be showcased at major fashion moments such as London Fashion Week and beyond.”
