Ahmedabad: A woman and her two children were attacked late Tuesday night in an airport-area neighbourhood while they were heading to a police station to report an earlier assault, police said.Airport police registered a case on Wednesday based on a complaint filed by the woman’s 25-year-old son. Police said the incident triggered a jurisdiction issue, with both Sardarnagar and Airport police reaching the spot. The case was ultimately registered by the Airport police under BNS sections 76 (assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to disrobe), 118(1) (grievous hurt by dangerous weapons), 117(2) (grievous hurt), 189(1) and 189(4) (unlawful assembly, including armed with deadly weapons), 190 (liability for offences committed in pursuit of a common object), and 191(2) and 191(3) (rioting, including armed with a deadly weapon). According to the complaint, the attack followed an earlier dispute linked to a community procession. The complainant said tensions began about two years ago after objections were raised over participation by people from another community, leading to a police application and action at the time. On Tuesday night, he reported being confronted near a local circle at a pan shop, where a man allegedly warned him about the upcoming procession and threatened, “I will see how you take out the procession this time.” The complainant alleged that later two men arrived, a scuffle followed, and he was struck on the legs with a stick. Police were called, and he went to a hospital for treatment before returning home. Later, the complaint said the same men chased his younger brother, who contacted police and got into a police vehicle. The complainant then left on a motorcycle with his mother and sister, following the police vehicle towards the station. He alleged that several men pursued and attacked them with sticks, injuring the mother and sister, and tearing the sister’s clothing.
