Ahmedabad: Group leaders Banaskantha, Ahmedabad and Kutch marched into the semis along with Surat, which emerged as the best second-placed side, in the Junior Girls Inter-District Football Tournament on Sunday.The tournament is being played at the Sports Authority of Gujarat (SAG) complex in Vadnagar.In Sunday’s matches, Rajkot thumped Valsad 7–0, while Banaskantha pummelled neighbours Patan 8–0. Ahmedabad scored 17 unanswered goals past Bharuch, while Kutch overpowered Bhavnagar 11–0 to register commanding yet lopsided victories.In Group A, Banaskantha finished atop. Ahmedabad and Kutch topped Groups B and C respectively. All three sealed their semifinal spots. Among the second-best teams, Surat, Baroda, and Patan were level on points. But the former advanced as the best second-placed side after pulling ahead on goal difference.The first semifinal will be played between Banaskantha and Ahmedabad on Monday, while the second semifinal will feature Kutch against Surat.
