Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Family Physicians Association (AFPA) and Danda Foundation on Sunday organised an event to train family physicians in the basics of identifying inflammatory rheumatic diseases and post-treatment care.Dr Smita Danda from Danda Foundation — established in remembrance of noted rheumatologist Dr Debashish Danda — said it was the first such event outside Vellore aimed at creating a cadre of experts.Dr Sapan Pandya, a city-based rheumatologist, said the city and its periphery have barely 40-odd rheumatologists, which is very low for the population and extent of the condition. “It is important to rope in family physicians, who are often the first responders,” he said. Dr R I Patel, president of AFPA, said more than 100 doctors participated in the event.
