Nagpur: A day after Nagpur police barred high-decibel sound systems for the festive season, a delegation led by former MLC Sandip Joshi met police commissioner Vishwas Nangre Patil and municipal commissioner Vipin Itankar, seeking a permanent policy curbing DJ systems and laser lights during festivals, weddings, public events and election processions.“The CP assured us that the restriction was not aimed at any particular community or festival. He also indicated that the police could extend the ban further, depending on the situation and feedback during the festive season,” Joshi told TOI.The memorandum submitted to the civic administration and police highlighted the hardship caused to senior citizens, children, students and patients by prolonged loud music, particularly at night.It demanded that organisers seeking permission for sound systems furnish undertakings committing to prescribed noise limits, timings and court directives, with any violation resulting in cancellation of permission and strict legal action. The delegation also sought stricter conditions for events near hospitals, educational institutions and residential areas, describing these as sensitive locations.It welcomed the “Noise Free Nagpur” portal, launched jointly by the NMC and city police for round-the-clock complaints, and demanded prompt action on every complaint along with feedback to complainants on measures taken.The memorandum further called for a permanent regulatory framework governing laser lights, citing public safety concerns, and sought uniform enforcement of noise regulations across religious festivals, social functions, weddings, public events and election rallies, regardless of community or occasion.The campaign, “DJ Bandi Sathi Ata Janchalwal,” has been launched to build public support for these curbs.
